Xi Jinping holds talks with Indonesian President Prabowo

On the afternoon of November 9th, President Xi Jinping held talks with Indonesian President Prabowo, who was on a state visit to China, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Xi Jinping pointed out that your first visit to China after being elected as president in March this year, and your first state visit to China after taking office, reflects your high attention to the development of Sino Indonesian relations and also demonstrates the high level and strategic nature of the bilateral relationship. Adhering to strategic autonomy, mutual trust and assistance, win-win cooperation, and fairness and justice is not only a summary of the development experience of Indonesian relations in the past few decades, but also an important principle that should be followed for the long-term stable development of bilateral relations in the future. China is willing to work with the new Indonesian government to build a community of shared future with regional and global influence, and continue to write a new chapter of unity, cooperation, mutual benefit and win-win among developing countries.

Xi Jinping emphasized that both sides need to consolidate a higher level of strategic mutual trust, strengthen high-level exchanges and cooperation among governments, legislative bodies, and local governments, enhance exchanges of governance experience, firmly support each other in exploring modernization paths that are in line with their own national conditions, and firmly support each other in safeguarding core interests and major concerns. We need to further improve the strategic cooperation layout and create cooperation in the “five pillars” of politics, economy, culture, maritime, and security. Adhere to the high-quality joint construction of the “the Belt and Road”, continue to operate the Ya’an Wanzhou high-speed railway, promote the cooperation of the “Regional Comprehensive Economic Corridor” and the “Two Countries, Two Parks”, strengthen the cooperation in digital economy, advanced manufacturing, circular economy and other fields, carry out joint development cooperation at sea, constantly deepen all-round mutually beneficial cooperation, better achieve financial development, and promote their respective modernization. China is also willing to work with Indonesia to create more projects that benefit the people, strengthen exchanges and cooperation in poverty reduction, medicine, food cultivation, fisheries and other fields, provide support for the training of scientific research talents and the development of vocational education in Indonesia, introduce more facilitation measures, and expand personnel exchanges.

Xi Jinping emphasized that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the publication of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, and next year marks the 70th anniversary of the Bandung Conference. As major developing countries, emerging market countries, and major members of the global South, China and Indonesia should jointly promote the Asian values centered on peace, cooperation, inclusiveness, and integration, give new era connotations to the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and the Bandung Spirit, lead countries in the global South to unite and strengthen themselves, and promote global governance towards a more just and reasonable direction. China is willing to engage in closer multilateral strategic coordination with Indonesia, oppose unilateralism and protectionism, promote equal and orderly world multipolarity, inclusive economic globalization, and jointly maintain regional peace and stability.

Prabowo stated that China is a great country, and Indonesia and China have a thousand year history of friendly exchanges, maintaining a good momentum of development in bilateral relations. In the current complex international situation, Indonesia hopes to further strengthen all-round strategic cooperation with China, become a closer comprehensive strategic partner, and build a community of common destiny with regional and global influence. This will not only benefit the two peoples, but also create a good environment for better peaceful development in Asia. Indonesia is willing to continue to work with China to jointly build the “the Belt and Road” with high quality, improve the “five pillars” cooperation pattern, strengthen all-round and full industrial chain cooperation in infrastructure, energy and mining, medicine, agriculture, housing, joint development at sea, food security, poverty reduction, etc., and welcome Chinese enterprises to invest in India and Nigeria. The affairs related to Xinjiang are entirely China’s internal affairs. Indonesia adheres to the principle of non-interference in internal affairs and firmly supports China’s efforts to maintain the development and stability of Xinjiang. Thank you to China for upholding justice and fairness on the Palestinian issue.
