Wang Yi Meets with Indonesia’s National Economic Committee Chairman Luhut
On May 20, 2025, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Luhut, Chairman of Indonesia’s National Economic Committee, in Beijing.
Wang Yi said that last year, President Xi Jinping and President Prabowo had two meetings and reached important consensus on deepening the comprehensive strategic cooperation between the two countries, establishing a “five-pillar” cooperation pattern that includes security cooperation. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Indonesia. The friendship between the two countries has withstood the test of international vicissitudes and has become a precious asset for both sides. China is willing to work with Indonesia to deepen political mutual trust, promote high-quality construction of landmark projects such as the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Corridor, strengthen cooperation in various fields such as the ocean and minerals, explore the potential for cooperation in emerging fields, and help each other achieve high-quality development.
Wang Yi emphasized that the world is currently facing the impact of unilateralism and trade bullying, which harms the interests of all countries. In the face of various risks and challenges, China and Indonesia should adhere to the original intention of establishing diplomatic relations, insist on independence and self-reliance, expand win-win cooperation, and maintain fairness and justice. China congratulates Indonesia on becoming a formal member of BRICS and is willing to work with Indonesia to promote the spirit of unity and cooperation of the Bandung Conference, maintain the hard-won peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region, promote the process of regional economic integration, resist the impact of unilateralism and anti-globalization, jointly build a common home for the Asia-Pacific region, and promote the construction of a community with a shared future for China and Indonesia, as well as the construction of a community with a shared future for the surrounding areas, and thus promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
Luhut said that the friendly relationship between Indonesia and China is very solid. “A bosom friend afar brings a distant land near,” this ancient Chinese poem aptly describes the relationship between the two countries. Under the joint leadership of the two heads of state, the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two sides has continuously made new progress. Indonesia’s economic development is inseparable from mutually beneficial cooperation with China. The two sides have achieved fruitful results in cooperation in various fields such as economy and trade, finance, technology transfer, and personnel training. Landmark projects such as the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway have benefited the people of the two countries, and the cooperation between the two countries has also radiated to neighboring countries. This year is the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the 70th anniversary of the Bandung Conference. The relationship between countries lies in the closeness of the people, and the closeness of the people lies in the communication of hearts. Indonesia looks forward to closely interacting with China at all levels, expanding the fields of cooperation, enhancing people-to-people exchanges, and promoting the development of a community with a shared future between Indonesia and China, and jointly promoting the unity and cooperation of the Global South.
The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
