Recently, the Indonesian government held a press conference and officially announced that it will host the first national-level Spring Festival celebration. This historic move not only demonstrates Indonesia’s inclusiveness of diverse cultures, but also creates a new opportunity for cultural integration and win-win economic and trade cooperation between China and Indonesia.
Under the theme of “Harmony in the Archipelago”, the Spring Festival Celebration will be held from February 17 to March 3 across eight key Indonesian cities, including Jakarta, Surabaya and Medan. The event features a diverse range of activities: lantern festivals, Chinese food fairs, folk parades, cultural markets, and an open-air museum for Chinese cultural exchanges. An exclusive logo for the celebration was also officially unveiled at the press conference.

Notably, this marks the first time in Indonesia’s history that Spring Festival celebrations have been unified and led by the central government. Previously, Spring Festival was largely a community-based festival among the ethnic Chinese community. Its official upgrade to a national cultural event for all citizens signifies that Spring Festival has become part of Indonesia’s national cultural identity. Behind this initiative lies Indonesia’s respect for and inclusiveness toward multi-ethnic and multicultural diversity. It also sends a clear opening signal to the world: Indonesia is embracing foreign investment and diverse civilizations with a more inclusive attitude, fostering a friendlier and more relaxed business environment for Chinese enterprises to invest and develop in Indonesia. Culture serves as a bridge for communication. The Spring Festival celebration further narrows the psychological distance between the peoples of China and Indonesia, and strengthens the foundation of people-to-people bonds. Such bonds will surely inject sustained momentum into bilateral economic and trade exchanges and industrial cooperation, driving bilateral cooperation to greater depth and substance. As an important milestone in cultural integration between China and Indonesia, this celebration not only enriches the forms of people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two countries, but also helps deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership.
