On June 28, the BRICS Innovation Base Industry Project Matching Conference was grandly held in Beijing. The meeting was presided over by Zhuang Rongliang, member of the Standing Committee of the Xiamen Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, Deputy Mayor of Xiamen, and Director of the BRICS Innovation Center. A number of heavyweight guests attended, including Cui Yonghui, member of the Standing Committee of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and Secretary of the Xiamen Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China; Victor, General Manager of the Asia-Pacific Region of the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency; Li Jian, counselor of the Indonesian Embassy in China; and Bernardes, Chief Executive Officer of the Lebak Regency Metropolitan Area in West Java.
At the event, 12 key cooperation projects were signed, with a total investment exceeding 30 billion yuan. Among them, the Bandung Airport Industry City (LCT) project from Indonesia, which has the largest investment scale, became the highlight of this signing. Bandung Airport City: Creating a New Industrial High Ground in Indonesia As the flagship project of this signing, the Bandung Airport Industry City, signed by the Indonesian Wanda Group and PT BlB Aerocity Development of West Java, has attracted high attention.
Chen Riling, chairman of the Wanda Group, revealed in an interview with CCTV that: The project’s first phase investment is $1.68 billion, and it is planned to start construction in the second half of 2025. The project is planned to cover an area of 26,000 acres, relying on the Bandung airport hub to create a comprehensive new industrial city. It will focus on core areas such as food processing, building materials manufacturing, home appliance production, and the automotive industry.
Chairman Chen emphasized the strategic consideration of choosing Bandung: “Bandung is a talent pool in Indonesia, which can support the needs of high-end industries. The project is only a 2-hour drive from Jakarta and a 1-hour drive from the urban area of Bandung, which will effectively承接the eastward shift of Jakarta’s manufacturing industry.” He pointed out that Jakarta is currently facing serious traffic congestion and smog problems caused by excessive industrial concentration. The construction of Bandung Airport City will provide a solution to these problems and become the core area of industrial transfer. In the initial stage, the project will create more than 1 million job opportunities. In the long term, it will be linked with the Lebak Regency Metropolitan Area and is expected to provide 5 million job opportunities, promoting regional economic and social development.
Building the Belt and Road Together and Winning Indonesian Opportunities During the promotion session, Chairman Chen Riling delivered a speech titled “Building the Belt and Road Together and Winning Indonesian Opportunities,” in which he comprehensively introduced Indonesia’s excellent business environment and rich investment opportunities. He pointed out that as the largest economy in Southeast Asia, Indonesia has a stable policy environment, abundant natural resources, and a huge market demand. It has great investment potential, especially in the fields of manufacturing, infrastructure construction, and green energy. Under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, the prospects for economic cooperation between China and Indonesia are becoming increasingly broad. The Bandung Airport Industry City project will become an important engine for cooperation between the two countries, providing more opportunities and development space for both sides in the fields of industrial upgrading, technological innovation, and talent exchange. The BRICS Platform Continues to Release the Benefits of Cooperation Since the launch of the BRICS Innovation Base in 2020, it has carried out more than 80 talent training sessions, covering more than 300 million people from over 100 countries, and has promoted the implementation of 107 cooperation projects with a total investment of 50.6 billion yuan. This matching conference, through benchmark projects such as the Bandung Airport Industry City (LCT) in Indonesia, has demonstrated the deepened cooperation between BRICS countries in the fields of industrial collaboration and integration of industry and city, and has provided a new paradigm for the industrial upgrading of emerging market countries. With Indonesia’s official accession to the BRICS countries as a partner on January 1, 2025, the cooperative effect of the BRICS platform has become more significant. BRICS cooperation has provided emerging market countries with broad opportunities for cooperation and a brighter future, promoting multilateral win-win results and contributing to the stability and prosperity of the global economy.
