BREAKING: U.S. and Indonesia Reach Trade Deal—19% Tariff Imposed

July 15 — U.S. President Donald Trump announced on social media that Washington and Jakarta have struck a preliminary trade agreement. Under its terms, the United States will levy a uniform 19 percent tariff on all goods imported from Indonesia, while American exports to Indonesia will enter duty-free and face no non-tariff barriers.
The accord was reached after talks between President Trump and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, according to reports.
Key provisions of the deal:
• Indonesian goods shipped to the U.S. will be subject to a 19 percent tariff.
• U.S. goods exported to Indonesia will enjoy zero tariffs and exemption from non-tariff barriers.
• For third-country goods transshipped through Indonesia, the base 19 percent rate will be stacked on top of any existing duties.
• Indonesia will purchase $15 billion in U.S. energy products, $4.5 billion in agricultural goods, and 50 Boeing aircraft.
